MANILA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit a sea area 271 km of Batan Islands off northeast Philippines at 10:59 a.m. (0259 GMT) on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

4月26日新华社马尼拉消息——根据美国地理勘探局消息，周一早晨10:59菲律宾东北部巴丹岛发生里氏6.9级地震。

The epicenter of the quake was initially determined to be 22.247 degrees north latitude and 123.733 degrees east longitude. It is 270 km from Tai-Tung city of Taiwan, the USGS said.

震中位置为北纬22.247、东经123.733。距离台湾台东市270公里。

There are no reports of casualties and damages so far.
