No one can deny that 2016 hasn’t been a year of political upheaval. We’ve seen here in this country with a Brexit vote; and we’ve seen in the United States with the election of Donald Trump.

It’s been a year when the ordinary people, the little people have kicked back against the liberal Establishment that’s ruled over their lives for so many years.

Working-class communities in this country went out in their droves and voted for Brexit. The Rust Belt in the United States voted en masse for Donald Trump.

If you think 2016 has been a year of upheaval, 2017 could be even bigger.

Now, I’m here today in Liverpool – in a place called Dingle on the banks of the River Mersey. And it’s significant because the Mersey was once the gateway to global trade for this country.

And we now have the opportunity as a result of that momentous vote on June 23rd to reignite our trade links all over the globe. But we will only do that if we get real Brexit, clean Brexit, the kind of Brexit that my party UKIP will campaign on, that is a Brexit whereby we control our own borders. It’s a Brexit whereby we make the legislation at Westminster; it’s a Brexit whereby we don’t pay a membership fee into the European Union. And only UKIP is committed to clean Brexit.

We will also continue to campaign on the issues the other parties don’t want to touch.

We will campaign for fair but firm immigration controls.

We will campaign to slash the foreign aid budget and ensure that British taxpayers’ money is spent here in our country.

We will campaign to ensure that the National Health Service is a national health service and not an international health service.

We will become the party of law and order, the party of zero tolerance.

We have great opportunities in 2017. We have by-elections, local elections to move our party forward. I genuinely believe that the future is bright, the future is purple.

Have a very happy New Year!
