This Day in History - March 22nd Starring - Michael Jackson

On March 22, 1987 Michael Jackson arrived in Japan to start a world tour. Michael Jackson was 10 years old when he scored his first pop hit with his brothers, The Jackson Five. And perhaps some retention of a childlike quality helped contribute to his staggering appeal as solo performer in his twenties. It is clear that children particularly adored him during world tours, such as one in Japan where a half millions copies of a new album were sold on the day of his arrival, not to mention store loads of souvenirs. Scalpers were reported selling tickets for $750 U.S. dollars for that particular Jackson engagement. But after all, this was the man whose album Thriller won an unprecedented 8 Grammy awards while breaking all music industry sales records in 1984.
