Humane Society Genesis Awards Nominations: 'War Horse,' 'Planet Of The Apes,' 'Rio,' And More

"The Artist" may be getting showered with praise and nominations, but there's one voting body who won't be honoring it this year: The Humane Society.

Yes, the animal advocacy organization made a surprising move when Michel Hazanavicius' ode to cinema history was snubbed for a Feature Film nomination at the group's annual Genesis Awards -- this despite the hoopla surrounding the film's pseudo-movie star, Uggie the dog. (Perhaps they are tired of people talking about him?)

So what ended up taking the place of "The Artist"? "Dolphin Tale," "War Horse," "Planet of the Apes" and "Rio." Yes, "Rio" -- the film that was completely animated and featured talking geese and toucans.

"It was an outstanding year for major feature films with strong animal protection content," said Humane Society senior director Beverly Kaskey, adding that "Animal welfare concerns, such as chimpanzees being used in research which is addressed in 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes,' are reaching huge audiences, thanks to the quality and engaging storylines of these films."

Somewhere, the whales from "Big Miracle," the dog from "Beginners" and Uggie, are plotting revenge.
