How often do you look at the sky?
I think I look at the sky pretty much every day, but maybe not intentionally. Normally I just take a look at it and see what the weather is like.
Eg: The item he intentionally obscured would make several interpretations possible.
Do you prefer the sky in the morning or the sky at night?
I prefer the sky at night because I will be able to observe the stars in the evening. If the stars are not visible, I can also enjoy beautiful streetlights.
Eg: Japanese astronomers plan to band together to observe one star in great detail.
Can you see the moon and stars at night where you live?
Yes, occasionally. I live in urban Shanghai, so whenever there is a haze, the moon and stars are overshadowed by the cloud. But when it is a sunny and clear day, there are chances that I could see a few stars even with the neon lights.
Eg: The dark valley is overshadowed by towering peaks.
Is there a good place to look at the sky where you live?
Yes. I live on the 22nd floor of a high-rise building, so my window sill is a really nice place to see the sky in broad day light or in the evening, because it offers a panoramic view of the city and the skyline is always marvellous.
Eg: The terrain's high points provide a panoramic view of Los Angeles.
Part 2 & 3
Describe a newly built public facility (such as parks, cinemas etc.) that influences your city.
You should say:
Where this facility is
When it was built
What people can do there
What influence this facility has
I would like to talk about the Siping Park, which has just been built recently.
The park is located in the Kongjiang Area of Yangpu District, and it is about ten minutes’ walk from my apartment. So I often go there to relax myself.
This park is divided into many different function areas, including a small square for group dancing, a lake for boating and some tracks for jogging. The neighbour around the park is densely populated, so normally people do not have enough space for leisure activities. Now that the park is built, the residents have a really good place to take a good break from their busy city life. Some seniors go to the park very early in the morning to practice Tai Chi. In the evening, many elders would play music there and dance to the tune. During weekends, many children are accompanied by their parents to talk a walk there. I myself sometimes bring my musical instrument to practice there.
The park has brought a lot of benefits to us who live nearby. It is a nice place for them to enjoy the natural beauty of trees and flowers and to breathe fresh air, which is precious in the city. It also offers an easily accessible place for family members to bond with each other. And it is also a great facility for neighbours to meet each other, which strengthens the connection in this community.
Eg：As a largely urbanised and densely populated country, the Netherlands has much to offer inthis regard.
②musical instrument: 词组；乐器
Eg：The drum is one of the oldest musical instruments.
③breathe fresh air: 词组；呼吸新鲜空气
Eg： I prefer living in the countryside, because I can breathe fresh air.
④bond with each other: 词组；增进联系
Eg. These kinds of family events are great opportunities to bond with each other.
What measures should be taken to deal with damage on public facilities?
I think it needs both the efforts of the management authority. The authority should strengthen the monitoring equipment and facilities, run routine maintenance and timely repair the broken ones. At the same time, it should raise public awareness for the protection of facilities for public. In addition, the public must be more aware of protecting the facilities and take reasonable use of public facilities.
Eg: This provided a pretext for the authorities to cancel the elections.
Eg: The window had been replaced last week during routine maintenance.
What are the differences between old facilities and new facilities?
Typically, old facilities have been built for a long time and may carry more historical meaning, but they may be worn out or are in disrepair. New facilities are usually designed to be more modern and easier to use, so they could meet latest demands better.
①worn out: 词组；破旧
Eg: Her boots were worn out but she couldn't buy another pair.
Eg: No historical phenomenon is a mere repetition of the past.
What facilities do young people and old people like in your country?
Young people prefer visiting cinemas or gyms, because they are more energetic and want to catch up with the latest trend. Old people are more likely to go to parks or theatres so that they can have a quiet and relaxing time and enjoy traditional culture as well.
Eg: You need to do something energetic and different.
②traditional culture: 词组；传统文化
Eg: Foreign influences and tourism are heavily regulated by the government to preserve its traditional culture.
What's the difference between facilities in the countryside and the ones in the cities?
Facilities in villages are usually very simple and can only meet basic needs, such as one or two basketball courts made of concrete. By contrast, the facilities in the city are typically more diverse. Cities not only have various sports facilities, but also have more recreational facilities such as theaters, cinemas and parks.
①basketball court: 词组；篮球场
Eg: As one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Michael Jordan did more than just standout on the basketball court.
Eg: The building houses a wide and diverse variety of antiques.
