A: I can’t believe what Steven did! He came to my dinner party wearing jeans, and started some conversations that were quite uncultured.
B: I know his comments were out of line, but give him a chance He just moved here from countryside. I’m sure he is just a diamond in the rough. When he gets used to being with us, he’ll become more polished.

A: 我简直不敢相信Steven做的事儿!他穿着牛仔裤来参加我的晚宴,谈起话来那么没文化。
B: 我知道他的品头论足很出格,但是给他个机会吧。他刚从乡下搬到这里,我想他还是能变好的。他和我们相处惯了,就会变得有礼貌了。

语言点精讲

uncultured: 没有教养的。
out of line: 形容人说话或行为不符合普遍接受的行为标准。
a diamond in the rough: 未经雕凿的原钻。形容某人具备好的特质,但是还不够老练。
polished: 有教养的。
