1. rumor

这里可以学到“有传言说“的表达“there's a rumor that……“，更常用的是rumor has it……：

Rumor has it (that) you're going to be the next managing director. Is it true?
大家都说你将成为下一任总经理，这是不是真的？

传播流言的动词可以用circulate、spread和go round：

Rumous are going round (the school) about Mr Mason and his assistant.
有关梅森先生和他助手的流言蜚语（在学校里）满天飞。

[ + that ] She's circulating/spreading rumors that the manager is going to resign.
她到处散播谣言，说经理要辞职了。

2. old bird

old bird是种幽默的表达，形容聪明老练的人。

补充一些bird习语——

①be (strictly) for the birds 愚蠢的；不重要的

②the bird has flown 要找的人跑掉了

③a bird in the hand (is worth two in the bush) 双鸟在林不如一鸟在手。

④a bird's eye view 俯视，鸟瞰

3. het up

het up的意思是焦急的，生气的，不安的。

形容生气还有这些形象的词语：

sullen (adj.) 不高兴的

sulk (v.) 生气

fume (n.) 愤怒；烦恼

irritate (v.) 引起恼怒；引起不愉快

as mad as a wet hen 气得哇哇叫

choke with rage 气得说不出话
