W:Oh,dear! That can’t be so!

(Text 3)

M:Excuse me.Shall I book a double room for several days?

W:Oh,yes.When will you arrive?

M:We’ll check in on Saturday and out on Tuesday. Is that all right?

W:No problem.

(Text 4)

W:Mike, there’s not much left in the refrigerator.

M:Well,I might be able to pick up a few things after work, but I have to be back rather late today.

W:In that case,we’ll eat out at McDonald’s.

M:OK.See you there at 8:00.

(Text 5)

M :I believe that choosing this man will be a complete mistake.

M :Hey,Louise, where can I get some lunch around here?

W:There are several places. What would you like to eat?

M:I’d really like a cheeseburger and some French fries.

W:Well, there’s a coffee shop on the next corner. It serves good food.

M:OK.I’ll try it.Can I get you something?

W:No,I think I’ll come with you.I’m longing for a nice salad.

M:Do you often have lunch at this coffee shop?

W:No,I usually bring my lunch from home and eat at my desk.

 (Text 7)

M :Oh,hi,Fred! I didn’t know whether to save you a place or not.Why are you so late?

M:It’s our maths teacher. She always keeps us in class until ten past ten.

W:Doesn’t she know that you’re supposed to get out at ten?

M:I guess so.But she never looks at her watch. She just keeps talking.

W:Don’t the students complain about it? I would say something.

M:No.Everybody is too polite.

Well, you could try and talk to her.

M:Maybe. But I’m afraid she might feel hurt.

W:Well,it all depends on how and when you say it.If you tell her about it in a friendly way when she’s not busy, she might be thankful. She might even ask you to remind her of the time in the future.

M:Really? That would be wonderful. Thanks for your advice.

(Text 8)

M: Stan,do you have a minute?

M:Oh,hi,Cathy.Sure.What’s up?

W:Well,I’ve been trying to talk to you about the situation in the office.

M:I’m not in there very often. It’s so noisy that I can’t work.

W:That’s exactly what I’m getting at.We’re supposed to be able to do our preparation in that office, but have you noticed that Jack constantly has students coming in to get help with his course?

M:We can’t really ask him to stop having students come in for help, can we?

W:No,of course not.But I’m not able to do my work and neither are you.I imagine it’s the same for the others in the office.

M:Hmm,could we ask for a kind of meeting room? When we have to talk to students,we can go to the meeting room.

W:I’m eighteen.

M:That’s rather young. What experience have you had?

W:Well,I’ve just left school, actually, and I’m looking for a job between now and when I go to college.

M:It doesn’t sound as though we can help,Katie. You see,our clients are very demanding, especially when it comes to the new office technology.

Oh,that’s no problem.I took extra classes in office skills at school.

M:Oh,perhaps you’d like to outline what you’ve been doing?

W:I started by learning keyboard skills. Then I went on to learn about word processing.

M:Good. You seem qualified from the technical point of view.
