自然资源
For many years, we have been told that China is rich in various natural resources so many people
take it for granted that they are
inexhaustible. People have not considered that one day some of these natural resources will be
used up and that we will then be faced with energy
crisis.
多年以来，我们一直被告知中国是一个资源富饶的国家，于是许多人想当然地认为这些资源是用之不竭的，他们从未想过有一天，有些资源会被用之殆尽，而我们也将面临着能源危机。
As a matter of fact, many of the natural resources can't be replaced once used up such as the coal mines or oil fuels, etc. Energy crisis will threaten our existence because of our
excessive exploitation and because of the growing population.
实际上，许多自然资源一旦被用尽则无法找到替代物，比如煤矿、油田等等。由于我们的过度开采和人口的不断增长，能源危机将威胁着我们的生存。
Considering the above the government should try to take some action to protect the natural resources and people should be educated not to waste them.
综上所述，政府应该采取一定的措施去保护自然资源，并且还要教育人民不要浪费它们。
NOTES
1. take … for granted / take it for granted that … 认为……理所当然
例：Don't take other people's help for granted. 不要认为别人帮助你是理所当然的。
I take it for granted that he will succeed. 我认为他会成功是理所当然的事。
2. use up 用完，耗尽
例：By this time he had used up all his savings. 到这时，他的存款已经全部用完了。
I am used up. 我已近累得筋疲力尽了。
3. take action 采取行动 (=take measures / take steps)
例：We have to take action to stop them. 我们得采取行动来制止他们。
