Sophie's bridesmaids and best friends, Ali and Lisa, arrive before the wedding. Sophie reveals that she found her mother's diary and learned she has three possible fathers: New York-based Irish architect Sam Carmichael, Swedish adventurer and writer Bill Andersson, and British banker Harry Bright. She invited them without telling her mother, believing that after she spends time with them she will know who her father is .

Villa owner Donna Sheridan is ecstatic to reunite with her former bandmates, wisecracking author Rosie and wealthy multiple divorcée Tanya, and reveals her bafflement at her daughter's desire to get married. Donna shows off the villa, rumored to be built on the legendary fountain of Aphrodite, and explains her precarious finances to Rosie and Tanya . The three men arrive, and Sophie smuggles them to their room and explains that she, not her mother, sent the invitations. She begs them to hide so Donna will have a surprise at the wedding: seeing the old friends of whom she "so often" favorably speaks. They overhear Donna working and swear to Sophie they will not reveal her secret.

Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) is a popular silent film star with humble roots as a singer, dancer and stunt man. Don barely tolerates his vapid, shallow leading lady, Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen), though their studio, Monumental Pictures, links them romantically to increase their popularity. Lina herself is convinced they are in love, despite Don's protestations otherwise.

One day, to escape from overenthusiastic fans, Don jumps into a passing car driven by Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds). She drops him off, but not before claiming to be a stage actress and sneering at his undignified accomplishments. At first, she pretends not to know who he is, but later in the film, she admits that she knew who he was all along and is also a big fan. Later, at a party, the head of Don's studio, R.F. Simpson (Millard Mitchell), shows a short demonstration of a Vitaphone talking picture ("...My voice has been recorded on a record...") which pays homage to the original 1921 DeForest Phonofilmdemonstration featuring DeForest himself explaining the system, but his guests are unimpressed.

To Don's amusement and Kathy's embarrassment, she pops out of a mock cake right in front of him as part of the entertainment; Kathy, it turns out, is only a chorus girl. Furious at Don's teasing, she throws a real cake at him, only to hit Lina right in the face. Later, after weeks of searching, Don makes up with Kathy after he finds her working in another Monumental Pictures production, and they begin to fall in love.

In Salzburg, Austria, Maria, a woman studying to become a nun, is sent from her convent to be the governess to seven children of a widowed naval commander, Captain Georg Ritter von Trapp. The children, initially hostile and mischievous, come to like her, and the woman finds herself falling in love with the captain. He was soon to be married to a baroness but marries Maria instead. Maria teaches the children singing. Meanwhile, the Nazis take power in Austria as part of the Anschluss, and want Captain von Trapp back in service. However, during a singing performance in a guarded theater, the whole family flees and walks over the mountains to Switzerland.

A beautiful, but self-absorbed prince get the chance to help an old raggedy lady, but he treats her badly. She turns out to be a beautiful woman with magical skills and she throws the prince into a spell of ugliness and loneliness. His staff is transformed into... well objects to do with their profession. He gets a magical mirror to watch the world through in his isolation. He needs to learn to love a person for who they are, and get them to love him before a magical rose he also is given loses its petals.

In the village a beautiful young girl feels lonely and misunderstood, 'cause she reads book, and seems to be the only one. She daydreams about getting out, getting a better life, meeting a prince. Her father is a "nutty professor". He goes off to compete at an inventors' fair but gets lost in the woods and ends up a prisoner at the beast's castle. Belle, the girl, goes looking for him, finds him there and pleads to let her father go, in return for her staying there with the beast.

It's a done deal and Belle is now trapped in the castle with the beast and his.. staff. She reads books, enjoys musical numbers such as "Beauty and the beast" and "Be our guest", and manages to fall in love with the beast. In the village the ignorant and manly Gaston is upset that Belle isn't interested in him. When her father claims she trapped with a beast, Gaston sees the opportunity to have him committed to a mental hospital, thereby forcing Belle to marry him. This almost works, but the beast lets Belle out and she is just in time to save her father and prove there is a Beast. She shows them the magical mirror and Gaston takes a posse to go and kill the beast. And the ending begins....

Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonksy) spends all of her time watching the Corny Collins (James Marsden) show, a dance-a-thon with Link Larkin (Zac Efron) as its main star along with his girlfriend, Amber Von Tussle (Brittany Snow) whose scheming mother, Velma (Michelle Pfieffer), contols all the votes for the Miss Hairspray crown.

Velma says no to Tracy being part of the show because of her size and her height, but Corny sees her at the school and lets her be part of the show.Tracy creates a few enemies with her views on segregation, her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes) falls in love with Seaweed (Elijah Kelley), who taught Tracy her dance moves and Link starts falling fall her.

A young idealist named Christian moves to Paris in the summer of 1899. There he meets a host of characters including Toulouse Lautrec and Harold Zidler, who owns a lavish nightclub called the 'Moulin Rouge'. Lautrec uses Christian to plug his new play and so dresses him up to convince one of Zidler's best employee's, the courtesan Satine (who also suffers from tuberculosis a.k.a. consumption), to get the play on Zidler's priorities. Zidler also fixes an "appointment" between an evil Duke and Satine on the very same night so that the rich Duke will invest in his nightclub.

Satine mistakes Christian for the Duke and inadvertentely falls in love with him and vice versa. Zidler convinces the Duke to invest, but Satine and Christian must keep their love a secret as the Duke believes that Satine loves him and also he is by nature a very jealous man. When the Duke finds out about their secret affair, he gives Satine an ultimatum: she must either do the play his way and go with him at the end of the play, or he will have Christian killed.

Satine decides to save Christian and goes on with the show whereas Christian decides to confront Satine about it. When he does, Satine decides to blow off the Duke and go with Christian. She then suffers an undefined but probable respiratory attack and dies of her condition behind the curtains.

At one time the longest-running Broadway musical, My Fair Lady was adapted by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe from the George Bernard Shaw comedy Pygmalion. Outside Covent Garden on a rainy evening in 1912, dishevelled cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) meets linguistic expert Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison). After delivering a musical tirade against "verbal class distinction," Higgins tells his companion Colonel Pickering (Wilfred Hyde-White) that, within six months, he could transform Eliza into a proper lady, simply by teaching her proper English. The next morning, face and hands freshly scrubbed, Eliza presents herself on Higgins' doorstep, offering to pay him to teach her to be a lady.

"It's almost irresistable," clucks Higgins. "She's so deliciously low. So horribly dirty." He turns his mission into a sporting proposition, making a bet with Pickering that he can accomplish his six-month miracle to turn Eliza into a lady. This is one of the all-time great movie musicals, featuring classic songs and the legendary performances of Harrison, repeating his stage role after Cary Grant wisely turned down the movie job, andStanley Holloway as Eliza's dustman father.

Julie Andrews originated the role of Eliza on Broadway but producer Jack Warner felt that Andrews, at the time unknown beyond Broadway, wasn't bankable; Hepburn's singing was dubbed byMarni Nixon, who also dubbed Natalie Wood in West Side Story (1961). Andrews instead made Mary Poppins, for which she was given the Best Actress Oscar, beating out Hepburn. The movie, however, won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Harrison, and five other Oscars, and it remains one of the all-time best movie musicals.

Mrs. Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr), a widow from Wales, arrives in Bangkok with her young son, Louis, to teach English to the children of the royal household of King Mongkut (Yul Brynner). She is escorted to the palace by the King's sinister right-hand man, the Kralahome, of whom she is very apprehensive - she and her son must disguise their fear ("Whistle A Happy Tune"). She is greeted, but told she will stay in the palace, although the king promised her she would have a house. She demands to see the King and does see him.

The King is pleased with her, and takes her to meet his wives and his fifteen children that live in the palace (he has sixty-seven more). She is charmed by the children, and agrees to stay and teach them. Here she meets a new, young wife - a Burmese girl named Tuptim, who arrived shortly before Anna did. She is unhappy living at the castle, because she is in love with Lun Tha, the man who had brought her to Siam from Burma.

The film begins with the announcement of Eva's death and public funeral as the audience is introduced to the film'snarrator, Ché (Antonio Banderas), an everyman who tells the story of Eva's rise to power and subsequent illness and death, appearing in many different guises and serving as Eva's conscience and critic. The film flashes back to Eva's childhood, and she is seen as a young girl attempting to attend her father's funeral in the town of Junín with her mother and siblings. But her father's wife and other family (who are middle class) ban Eva's family from entering and carry Eva out screaming and claiming that he's her "papa" after she runs in on her own and pays her last respect regardless of the Spanish-language argument.
