香港在智能卡的推广和应用上一直走在世界前列，现在世博香港馆里，游客也能体验智能卡带来的方便生活，出行、上网、身份验证，小小一张智能卡都可以搞定。说到“智能卡”，英语中是怎么表述的呢？我们知道“人工智能”是artificial intelligence，那么“智能卡”是不是什么intelligent card之类？其实不是哦，这种叫做smart card：

A smart card is a pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits.
smart card是一种口袋大小内置有集成电路的卡片。

同样的，“智能手机”就是smart phone。为什么会用smart这个词呢？除了我们知道的表示“聪明、精明”的意思，Merriam词典中，smart的释义里还包括mentally alert、knowledgeable这样的意思，另外还有 operating by automation，“自动化”之意。看来smart这么个小词，意思还是挺多的哦。
