Income gap：就是指“收入差距”。

Gap在这里的意思是“差距”，例如：a trade gap of $20 million（2000万美元的贸易差额）。Gap也可以表示“分歧，隔阂”，例如：reduce the gap between the two countries on the issue（缩小两国在该问题上的分歧）。另外，gap还有“间隔，间隙”的意思，例如：a gap in a conversation（谈话的间隙）。

收入差距过大的一部分原因是income distribution（收入分配）的不公。收入差距过大将造成wealth gap（贫富差距）扩大。另外，由于rural-urban development divide（城乡发展差距）的扩大，也会带来rural-urban income gap（城乡收入差距）的扩大，这不利于social stability（社会稳定）。国家可以通过调整national income redistribution（国民收入再分配）来缩小收入差距。
