British Airways (英国航空) customers face more uncertainty because they even know the Union has voted to strike, it is not said when that will start or for how long. Now this Union like many Unions in the airline industry want to have more say on how the struggling airline restructure and cut costs in these tough times. But I can tell you that CEO Willie Walsh of BA has said to me many times, he will not back down when it comes to cutting cost and imposing changes to save this airline. Jim Boulden, CNN at Heathrow airport.

I'm Al Goodman in Terminal 4 at Madrid's Barajas airport. Iberia(西班牙航空) has had plenty of labor promises in the past but right now, things are calm. Cabin crews went on strike last autumn over pay, but are currently negotiating a new contract with Iberia and have pledged not to strike while the talks continue. Iberia pilots who have been on strike in the past over various issues are working like usual. Iberia is trying to complete its merge with British Airways, a deal announced last November. It will maintain both airline brands Iberia and British and supposed to give them the combined size necessary to compete in the airline industry.

But there is potential labor unrest here among air traffic controllers. The government wants restructuring and some worry the air traffic controllers could respond with work slowdowns that would delay flights.

I'm Eunice Yoon at HK International Airport. Asia-Pacific airlines (亚太航空)have had to suffer through a rough 2009, losing an estimated $3.5 billion. Some companies have made dramatic changes to try to survive. Qantas(澳大利亚航空), for example, decided to drop first class for many of its routes because the passenger demand just hasn't been there.

And Japan Airlines (日本航空) is undergoing a painful restructuring which includes government bailout and thousands of job cuts.

For the most part , Asia-Pacific airlines are faring better than airlines in other parts of the world. Already for 2010, passenger numbers are up.
