Intense explosions have erupted along Syria’s border with Turkey, as fighting rages around the embattled city of Aleppo. The area is a key route for refugees fleeing the conflict. Fighting over the commercial hub of Aleppo has lasted nearly two weeks.

The Senate leave Washington this week for a month-long break without passing legislation to protect the U.S. electrical grid, water supplies and other critical industries from cyber attack and electronic espionage. Congressional sponsors were scrambling to overcome republican resistance Wednesday.

A judge is set to decide Thursday whether to declare a mistrial and put an end to Drew Peterson’s murder trial just days after it began. Legal experts say the ruling could result in the former suburban Chicago police sergeant going free, though that remains unlikely.

And it's time for Phelps vs. Lochte Round Two. The two top American swimmers, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will be competing against each other again. This time in the 200 meter individual medley on Thursday at the London games.
