broad, wide

这两个形容词均含“宽阔的”之意。

broad : 普通用词，指向两边延伸的宽度，强调两边之间面积的广阔，也可指向四方伸展开去。

例如：The banana tree has broad leaves.（香蕉树的叶子又宽又大。）

wide : 常用词，侧重指两边或两点之间的距离。着重距离的远近。

例如：There is a wide gap between the views of the two statesmen.（关于这点，两位政治家的政见有很大分歧。）

bug, insect, pest, worm

这些名词均含“虫，昆虫”之意。

bug : 指小昆虫，尤指吸血的臭虫，也可指细菌。

例如：The sacks of rice were swarming withbugs.（一袋袋的米里长满了虫子。）

insect : 含义广泛，多指蚂蚁、黄蜂、蝉等等。

例如：He was bitten by an insect in the garden.（他在花园里被虫子咬了一口。）

pest : 指有害的昆虫或有害的小动物。

例如：The flowers were attacked by garden pests.（这些花遭到植物寄生虫的侵蚀。）

worm : 侧重指蚯蚓、蚕、毛虫等小而无骨的虫。

例如：The glowworm isn't a worm.（萤火虫不是蠕虫。）
