10月07日:Let's get down to the facts. Where were you last night?我们就直说吧,你昨晚在哪里?

down to the facts:说正题,说实话
例如:Let us get down to the facts. Where did you go yesterday?(说实话,你昨天去了哪里?)
          Could you get down to the facts?(你能直奔主题吗?)

10月08日:In spite of the heavy rain, she went to the shop.尽管下着大雨,她还是去了商店。

spite of:尽管,虽然
例如:In spite of this, they were in a quandary.(尽管这样,他们还觉得左右为难。)
          In spite of great efforts we failed to carry our plans through.(尽管我们作出了巨大努力,我们还是没能完成计划。)

10月09日:He wants the job purely for reasons of vanity and ambition.他之所以想得到那份工作,纯粹是为了满足自己的虚荣心和野心。

1.for reason: 由于...的理由
例如:For reason given above the scheme should be redesigned.(鉴于上述原因,此方案应重新设计。)
          This is often done in the literature for reason of a simpler presentation.(为了简化说明常常在文献中这样做。)

10月10日:No matter what happened, he would not say a word.不管发生什么事,他都不会说一句话。

1.say a word说话,跟别人说
例如:Between astonishment and joy, she could hardly say a word.(惊喜交集,她几乎说不出话来。)
          No matter what happened, I will not say a word.(不管发生什么事我一句话也不说。)

10月11日:Nothing ventured, nothing gained.不入虎穴,焉得虎子。

例如:He is too timid to venture upon a new undertaking.(他太胆小,不敢从事新的事业。)

adj. 额外的,特别的;上好的
例如:Taking those extra courses profited me.(修那些额外的课程对我有益。)
          Clearly there is some extra restriction.(显然,还存在有某种附加的限制。)

10月13日:It was useless to pretend innocence.装无辜是没用的。

例如:You pretend to be foolish intentionally.(你有意装傻。)
          The children pretend to be different animals dancing to the music.孩子们扮成不同的动物,随着音乐起舞。
