06月03日:The man you've just mentioned is but a poor apology for a writer.你刚才提到的那个作家只不过是个有名无实的人。

1.a poor apology:有名无实
例如:That restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but they serve a poor apology for a meal.(这家饭店气氛很不错,不过上的菜却有名无实了。)
          I know he's a college graduate, but he's still a poor apology for a college graduate.(我知道他是个大学生,可他也只不过是个有名无实的大学生。)

06月04日:He really has no guts.他真的太没骨气了。

no guts:没骨气
例如:He has no guts. He would be back and good to people when given a song and dance.(他真没骨气,给两句好话就又和别人好起来了。)
          I'm surprised to learn that Xiao Gao had married the man who had once done her father in. She really has no guts.(真没想到小高那么没骨气,竟然嫁给了坑害过她父亲的人。)

06月05日:He doesn't know beans about the insurance business at all.他对保险业务一窍不通。

1.not know beans about something:对某事一窍不通,不了解
例如:I don't know beans about the piano.(我对那钢琴是一窍不通。)
          He doesn't know beans about Chinese culture and their way of life.(他对中国的文化和风土人情一窍不通。)

06月06日:He always likes to play a lone hand.他喜欢单枪匹马地去干。

1.play a lone hand单枪匹马地干,独自经营
例如:When investing in a business, he always likes to play a lone hand.(在投资时,他总喜欢单枪匹马地去干。)
          He's not the sort to enter into partnership. He prefers to play a lone hand.(他是不喜欢和别人合伙的,他宁愿单干。)

06月07日:You're still wet behind the ears.你还嫩点儿。

behind the ears:乳臭未干的,幼稚的,无经验的
例如:Is Lance wet behind the ears?(兰斯太幼稚了吗?)
         I guess I'm still wet behind the ears.(我觉得我还是嫩了一些。)

06月08日She eats like a bird.她的饭量特别小。

like a bird:吃得极少,饭量很小
例如:She eats like a bird. A small piece of bread will be enough for her.(她的饭量特别小,有一小块面包就足够了。)
          Lily is very slim bacause she eats like a bird.(莉莉十分苗条,因为她吃的少。)

the upper hand:处于有利地位,占上风
例如:A wise general can gain the upper hand in any battle.(一位有智慧的将军在任何战争中都能占上风。)
          Male students inevitably gain the upper hand during the job hunt.而男生们在找工作时必然会占上风。)
