Your Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo,
Ladies and Gentlemen,


尊敬的阿罗约总统阁下，
女士们，先生们，


How much honored we are that Your Excellency is gracing us with your presence at this very festive event to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The Spring Festival has been celebrated by the Chinese people every year as the most important tradition since ancient times. For the Chinese diplomats living and working in Manila, this old tradition takes on new meanings. It’s more than a time simply for family reunion. It has become a momentous occasion when we extend our heart-felt season’s greetings to Your Excellency and our good friends in the Philippines.


我们很高兴总统阁下您能出席本次中国新年庆祝活动，您的莅临令我们不胜荣幸。自古以来，中国人都将每年欢庆春节视作最重要的传统。对生活和工作在马尼拉的外交官来说，这个旧的传统呈现出新的意义。它不仅是家人团聚的时刻，也成为我们向总统阁下以及菲律宾的好朋友们致以节日诚挚问候的重要时刻。


Memorable should be the past 2009 which witnessed steady development of the strategic and cooperative relationship between our two countries. Exchange of high-level visits strengthened our political ties and enhanced our mutual trust. Economic cooperation to mutual benefit made gratifying progress and yielded concrete results. Fresh cooperation achievements in various fields such as education and tourism provided sustaining driving force behind the vibrant China-Philippines relationship.


难忘的2009年见证了中菲战略合作伙伴关系稳步发展。两国的高层互访加强了两国的政治联系，增进了相互信任。互利共赢的经济合作取得了可喜进展，获得了实质性的成果。在教育、旅游等多领域合作取得的新成就为中菲关系欣欣向荣提供了不竭动力。


Indeed, this relationship has been defined and nurtured by the vision and enterprise of the leaders and peoples of our two countries. This is how it should be between good neighbors. This is what has given this relationship the sense of excitement and energy that we see today. The relationship rests on the solid foundation of broad-based political support and public good will in China and I, believe, also in the Philippines, and therefore, will continue to progress in breadth and depth.


事实上，两国领导人和两国人民的远见与胆识定义并滋养了我们两国关系，这就是友好邻邦之间才有的关系，赋予今日所见的激情与活力。这种关系建立在中国人民，我相信也包括菲律宾人民广泛的政治支持和善意基础之上，因此它将继续朝更广泛更深入的方向发展。


As we celebrate the 35th anniversary of China-Philippines diplomatic relations this year, we are also charting our course for the next 35 years. With the confidence we draw from the recent progress in our relationship, the goodwill and support that the relationship enjoys in both countries, and, above all, the imagination, inspiration and innovation of the talented and enterprising peoples of our two countries, we are sure to continue building and deepening cooperation across a very wide field and turning potentialities of the past into opportunities for the future.


今年我们不但要庆祝中菲建交35周年，同时也要为接下来的35年制定方针。由于两国关系今日取得的进步，获得的善意和支持，最重要的是由于才华横溢、锐意进取的两国人民的想象力、灵感和创新精神，我们一定会朝着更广的领域建立并深化合作，将过去的可能性变为今后的机会。

The Year of 2010 is the Year of Tiger. It really bodes well because, in China, tiger has always been viewed as the animal of strength and power. More power to Your Excellency and your country. More power to the People’s Republic of China. And most importantly, more power to the growing China-Philippines relationship and flourishing friendship between our two peoples.


2010年是虎年，预示着好兆头，因为在中国，虎一直被视为是充满力量的动物。愿总统阁下和你的国家更加兴旺发达。愿中华人民共和国更加繁荣富强。最重要的是愿不断发展的中菲关系、两国人民不断深厚的友谊更加欣欣向荣。
