Smart phones can provide music, movie times, bus schedules. They can even make phone calls! And now, they might help cut down fuel use while driving. The system was tested in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where traffic lights are on a set pattern, and in Singapore, where signals respond to traffic flow. Drivers slashed their fuel use by about 20 percent on average. 玫瑰花 ([w]rose[/w]) 向来都是爱情的象征 ([w]symbol[/w])，对于女孩子来说情人节如果能收到一束 (a bouquet of) 玫瑰花，那可是再开心不过的事情了！不过据说一悲催 ([w]unfortunate[/w]) 男因为错把月季当做玫瑰送给要告白(love announcement) 的女孩被发现后惨遭拒绝。小D觉得这可比情人节送康乃馨给女朋友要委屈得多啊！为什么这么说呢？接着看吧！

其实一些报道说黑心花商把月季当做玫瑰出售稍有点歪曲之嫌。因为现在市面上能买到的玫瑰其实都是玫瑰、月季 ([w]monthly rose[/w]) 与蔷薇（科普一下：蔷薇、玫瑰和月季都是蔷薇科蔷薇属的植物。）杂交演变的品种，它继承了月季花四季开花的特征，也沿袭了玫瑰的香气还具有花朵大，颜色丰富、艳丽等更多特征。这种杂交出来的“玫瑰”事实上就是现代月季 ([w]modern rose[/w])，只是早期的译者们认为“玫瑰”要比“月季”来得浪漫、悦耳，所以“玫瑰”这个名字才沿用至今。传统的玫瑰其实没有那么漂亮，而且主要用来提炼玫瑰油，其价值要比等重量的黄金高。

所以女童鞋们不要再纠结收到的到底是玫瑰还是月季了，是什么花并不重要，重要的是他爱你的那份心！不过男童鞋们也不要煞风景地送人家爆米花哈，除非她是个不折不扣的popcornholic（爆米花狂人）！

“梅花朵朵开，等着你回来，等着你回来！”武汉大学官方微博7日下午发出的这条“梅花体”迎新微博，昨日已被网友转发和评论200多人次。学生返校之际，武汉多所高校一改严肃面孔，龙年新春卖萌迎接返校学生。

7日，武大官博在转发一名学生“银行卡莫名多了1000多元”的信息时，还用起了“亲，好样的，扩散没商量”的淘宝体。而网友在扩散评论时，也不断地用起了网络体：“亲，武大都是好样滴。”

昨日，华中科技大学官方微博更是用起了最新的网络热词：“各位还在家享受‘休假式治疗’的童鞋，新学期就要开始了，准备返校学习啦，但不要超负荷哦。提醒大家要在2月9日至2月25日期间登录进行新学期注册。”（>>戳我看“休假式治疗”英语怎么说<<）

“亲们，元宵吃完了，也就快开学啦”，“您好，您的寒假已不足10天，请及时充值”……武汉理工大学、华中农业大学、武昌理工学院、湖北工业大学商贸学院等高校官博最新发布的内容，同样很萌、很受欢迎。

“整体来讲，七校微博过于官方，与‘粉丝’的互动过少。这一点从评论回复上可以清楚地看到。”中南财经政法大学信息管理与信息系统专业大三学生丁力，前不久专门从名称、域名、简介、头像、正文、互动性、影响力等7个方面，给武汉7所部属高校官方微博“排座次”。

但近日的微博内容改变了不少网友对武汉高校官博过于严肃的看法。据悉，武汉高校官博有的由宣传部门老师负责维护，有的则由学生打理。微博专家、武汉大学信息管理学院教授沈阳认为，高校微博既是学生快速反映问题的平台，也是和校友联络情感、展示高校风采的平台；要把高校微博办好，建立线下的联动处理机制是关键。

药家鑫案再掀风波：20万元赠款到底该不该给？

The Xi'an Intermediate People's Court handed him a death sentence for intentional killing on April 22, 2011 and his [w]appeal[/w] of the sentence was rejected by the Shaanxi Provincial Higher People's Court on May 20. 重庆副市长接受休假式治疗：“休假式治疗”红遍世界各大媒体

2月8日11时06分左右，重庆市政府新闻办通过微博发布信息：王立军副市长因长期超负荷工作，精神高度紧张，身体严重不适，经同意，现正在接受休假式的治疗。

该条微博受到高度关注，一小时之内转发次数逾3万，评论超过万条。

本月2日，重庆市政府新闻办同样通过微博发布消息称，“近日市委决定，王立军同志不再兼任市公安局局长、党委书记，以副市长身份分管联系经济领域工作。”

出生于1959年的王立军，曾任铁岭和锦州两市公安局局长，2008年6月起在重庆市公安局先后任党委副书记、副局长，党委书记、副局长，局长、党委书记等职；于2011年5月27日，在重庆市三届人大常委会第二十四次会议上，以54票赞成满票当选重庆市副市长；有“打黑英雄”之称，据称身上大小伤达二十多处。

本月5日，王立军曾去重庆市教委、重庆师范大学调研，了解该市教育工作情况。当日，他在市教委听取教育工作汇报时称，“自己与教育界、科技界一直有着不解之缘，并长期深度合作。在工作经历中，目前还担任着多所高校的客座教授，每年授课时间占工作日程的二十分之一。”王立军表示，“每一项工作对自己而言都是新的挑战，也是很好的学习锻炼机会。”

沪江小编：此消息一出，一时间“休假式的治疗”这个词成为了全球各大主流媒体的热门词汇，那么它的英文表达是怎样的呢？纵观各路媒体，大致的说法有以下几种：

① vacation-style treatment

VOA: The Chongqing city government said Wednesday that Wang Lijun was undergoing “vacation-style treatment” because of “long-term overwork, a high level of mental stress and physical [w]exhaustion[/w].”
在这里我们还可以注意一下VOA对这几个短语的翻译：
长期超负荷工作：long-term overwork；
精神高度紧张：a high level of mental stress；
身体严重不适：physical exhaustion。

② holiday-style medical treatment

BBC: Wang Lijun is receiving what his employers describe as "holiday-style medical treatment".
BBC将 treatment 具体化为 medical treatment（医疗），另外将 vacation 一词换成了 holiday。在英国、澳大利亚等国家，holiday 和 vacation 的意思是差不多的，但他们更常用 holiday 这个词，较少用 vacation；而在美国等国家，holiday 主要指圣诞节之类的国定假日，而 vacation 则指一般的休假。

③ vacation-style therapy

Associated Press: The Chongqing city government said Wednesday that Wang Lijun, its police chief until last week, had “reportedly” taken leave to recover from anxiety and physical [w=ailment]ailments[/w] resulting from his heavy work load. A brief government notice said Wang, who is also a vice mayor, was undergoing “vacation-style therapy,” but gave no details.
美联社将 treatment 一词换成了 [w]therapy[/w]。therapy 和 treatment 都是“治疗”的意思，区别不大，经常可以互换使用，但是相比之下 therapy 一词不太用来指“用药物治疗”。

④ "therapeutic" leave

Reuters: The Chongqing government said the deputy mayor Wang Lijun took "therapeutic" leave for overwork.
路透社直接译作了 take "[w]therapeutic[/w]" leave。Therapeutic 是 therapy 的形容词形式，意思是“治疗的；有疗效的”。另外"take ... leave"也是一种固定用法，我们平时说“请病假”就是 take sick leave。

How many chargers do you own? One for your cell phone? Another for your laptop? Yet another for your tablet, podcast player or even electric ____1___ ? It adds up.

If you've ever felt a charger when it's doing its job you know how warm they get. That's because they're____2___ : wasting electricity as heat as well as feeding the battery. But new standards recently adopted in California aim to change all that.

Earlier this month, the California Energy Commission voted to adopt minimum energy efficiency standards for these ____3___ devices. The Golden State alone boasts 170 million such chargers (pdf)—not including the team in San Diego—or more than four for each resident of the state.

The new energy efficient chargers will save Californians an estimated $306 million a year in electricity costs, as well as enough electricity to power 350,000 homes for a year.

Of course, replacing the plethora of different chargers with one ____4___ charger for a particular type of gadget might be even better—and cut down on e-waste. But until that day, stronger charger standards give a nice jolt to energy efficiency efforts.

【翻译笔记】

1. demurral：名词 demurral 表示“反对、异议；犹豫、顾虑”，特指经过深思熟虑后正式提出的反对意见（considered expression of opposition, a formal objection）。动词形式为demur 提出异议（也可用作名词），常用作法律词汇。

Apart from the one small protest, which ended after some gentle [w]placard[/w]-waving, there has been no whisper of public demurral.除了一个小规模的抗议之外，没有其他任何公众抗议的流言。而这次抗议也只是挥舞了几下标语就结束了。

All articles held in house are deemed to give up, Party A has the right to handle, Party B is without demur definitely.房屋留置的一切物品均视为放弃，甲方有权处置，乙方绝无异议。

2. sideline：作名词时，表示球场边线，副业（a subsidiary line of merchandise），局外人的观点。

球类运动术语中的边线球 sideline ball 属于界外球的一种。sideline product 指副业产品，一家公司兼营其它业务可以说sideline in。sidelined investors 指的是持观望态度的投资者。sideline还可以用作动词，表示（由于受伤）退出比赛；把…排除在核心之外。

He runs a profitable sideline selling postcard to tourist.他在干一个有收益的副业----向游客出售明信片。

As a journalist , I was on the sidelines during the political crisis.我是记者，在这一政治危机时期我是目睹一切的局外人。

3. Sculley and Jobs：

【沪江Vtime】专访自学10门外语的“外语哥”！

新年伊始，网上一篇总结自己8年来成功自学10门外语的日志让一位同济大学生走红网络。这位被称为“外语哥”的语言狂人对记者说，他的学习动力源自掌握一门语言后的成就感，而在谈到自己的感悟时他称：“我们永远不知道自己真正的能力”。

李路现在是同济大学的大四学生，今年21岁，主攻计算机。李路学习英语之外的第一门外语日语是在初二暑假，而学习的理由也很简单，因为喜欢“红白机和日本动画片”，他就琢磨着怎么把这些东西看懂。找入门资料，琢磨那些似曾相识词汇的含义，这成了当时他最大的爱好。日语攻克之后，他一发不可收拾，又先后自学起意大利语、法语、西班牙语、葡萄牙语、德语、阿拉伯语、泰语和韩语。迄今，他坦言，这些语言操练起来，英、日是最纯熟的，能和他人流利交流，且能看原声电影；而他认为最难的阿拉伯语，目前也能与人进行日常基本对话。

我们现在就来看看李路都跟我们沪江网的网友们分享了哪些语言学习经验吧！

沪江网：你是在什么契机下学习外语的呢？你学习外语是纯粹为了自己的兴趣还是希望为自己以后工作生活增加一点外语资本呢？

李路：应该说我本来就对小时候看动画片一直对主题曲画面中的日语假名感兴趣，觉得不同的文字很神奇，也尝试着听着发音学会了几个假名。也许就是因为如此，我在看到日语入门的网站后就像突然醒悟一样开始了日语学习。我学外语都是纯粹对语言本身感兴趣。我对各种外语之间词汇的比较，词汇的来源和奇怪的发音都很感兴趣。我的专业领域基本上是只需要英语的，其他语言基本上用不到。所以我学外语基本上是为了兴趣。

沪江网：你学了这么多门外语，在学习过程中有没有过觉得累的时候？在你感觉学得累或者不想学的时候，你是怎样克服的呢？

李路：有很多时候我会觉得累。我会暂时搁置高强度学习，换成看电影，听歌，看小说这种低强度的学习。如果感觉实在学不下去，对一种语言审美疲劳了，那么我也会换一门语言学一会儿，过一阵子再切换回原来的语言继续学。

沪江网：学语言不论是实际使用还是考试，都离不开听、说、读、写、译这五个方面。你觉得其中哪一个是最基础的，是初学者最需要把握好的呢？这5者在学习过程中又是什么关系?

李路：我还是觉得听力是最重要的。因为人学母语就是从听开始的，说明一开始只靠听是能够学习一门语言的。一旦听得熟了，一些短语或句子就会像广告语那样说着很顺口。而有了听说的基础，只要会拼读，阅读也不会有什么问题，就是需要多读以提高速度，特别是对中国人来说，汉字都能读，那么其他字母更是不在话下了。写作这部分还是需要天赋，中文写不好的人英文也不可能写好。翻译就更难了，因为要翻译得好，母语和外语都要非常精通，每个外语表达都要快速找到母语中最接近的对应。所以还是听力最重要。

沪江网：你学了这么多门语言，每次选择下一门语言学习目标的时候，你会有什么选择标准吗？

李路：有些语言是本身的发音就很吸引我的，比如意大利语和葡萄牙语，有的语言是字母吸引我，比如阿拉伯语。有的语言是文化吸引我，比如日语和法语。我的选择标准很多，但是有一定的约束。首先是一定要有学习资料和听力材料。我一直很想学捷克语，但是苦于没材料，就无法进行了。我尽量每种大语系都想挑一门学，否则如果都学欧洲语言，大同小异的，虽然方便，但是学到后来也没什么意思。

沪江网：很多同学学语言的时候，考试拿到好成绩会很享受。有的同学发现自己能看懂那个国家的电影电视很享受。那么学了这么多门语言的你，最享受的时候是什么时候呢？

李路：我觉得感到自己比以前有进步就是一种享受。比如原来看天使爱美丽什么都听不懂，只能看字幕，后来又看了一遍，能听出语速很快的J‘aurais du来了，我就会感到很享受。还有有一首西班牙语歌曲sin miedo a nada，我高中的时候就开始听，也试着看了看歌词，但由于那时候学西方语言还没找到门道，所以只是听旋律。今年学西班牙语的时候，每隔一段时间我就重听一遍这首歌，每次都比原来听懂更多，就感到十分的满足。

沪江网：我们经常都会碰到这种情况：背的单词一段时间不用就会忘，然后又要重新背。那么你学了8种语言，会不会出现学了一门新语言，把上一门学的语言给忘了的情况呢？你是怎样保证自己学了新知识，不忘旧知识的？

李路：遗忘是肯定会有的，但是不会忘光。如果隔一年再继续学习的话，很多单词只要稍加复习就能重新记起。不过前提还是之前的学习不能停在入门阶段。如果学日语只是学了五十音图和基本单词就断掉的话的话，说不定之后连五十音图都会忘光。就比方说我一开始学泰语的时候，学完字母会拼单词就没坚持下去，结果过了几年重新再学，除了常见的好辨认的字母外，其他都忘得差不多了，但是还是有些印象。所以语言学习是一个反复的过程，只有多用多想才能记得牢。

沪江网：在你的语言学习过程中，遇到过的最大困难是什么？你是怎样克服的呢？

李路：我遇到过的最大困难就是连读，连音。这对于很多习惯字字分开的中国人来说都是很头疼的。我一开始学法语的时候因为连读而听不懂文章，只是阅读课文的时候能看得懂。其实这个困难要克服也很简单，还是多听。就算单词因为连读而变得面目全非，他们之间常见的排列组合还是不变的，如果学中文学两句就能找到规律，那么学法语要学10句才能找到规律，但也是能找到规律的。

沪江网：学了这么多门语言之后，你接下来想挑战的是哪一门语言呢？

李路：我现在已经在挑战拉丁语，但由于寒假事比较多，也没什么进展。接下来还学习俄语，毕竟俄语也是一个大语种了，也想尝试看看。接下来的N年里我准备学的语言还有如下几种：荷兰语，瑞典语，马来语，斯瓦西里语，越南语，土耳其语，波斯语。不过都只是学着玩玩，真正需要巩固的还是法语，西班牙语，德语。

沪江网：在你的学习文章里提到了沪江法语，觉得沪江法语对你的法语学习提供了不少帮助。你觉得沪江网最吸引你的地方在哪里呢？

李路：我觉得网络学习更自主，更自由吧。在一个教室里大家的水平参差不齐，而老师只有一个。水平差的跟不上，水平高的又觉得太无聊。而如果用网络自学的话，可以找到适合自己的学习材料和学习方法，学习节奏也是取决于自己。不过，在课堂中学习也是有好处的，就是有老师每天盯着，可以防止自己偷懒，老师的引导也能帮助一些自学能力没那么强的学生更好地学习。

我觉得如果当地没有合适的培训机构，或者自己的闲暇时间不够的话，我会选择沪江网校。

【译言译语】经典直译误区（二）：否定句型与修辞句型

一、否定句型中的直译误区

英语中有一些一些句型不能完全采用直译法进行翻译，否则，就会造成误译，甚至与原意背道而驰，下列几种否定句型值得注意：

1. 部分否定句型，这种句型不同于汉语思维形式。

I do not know all of them.

误：对他们我都不认识。

正：对他们我不是个个都认识。

All the answers are not right.

误：所有答案都不对。

正：答案并非全对。

Everybody wouldn''t like it.

误：每个人都不会喜欢它。

正：并不是每上人都会喜欢它。

2. 单一否定中部分句型

It is a long lane that had no turning.

误：那是一条没有弯的长巷。

正：无论多长巷也有弯地方（路必有弯，事必有变）。

It is a wise man that never makes mistakes.

误：聪明人从不犯错误。

正：无论多么聪明的人也难免犯错误。

We cannot estimate the value of modern science too much.

误：我们不能过高地估计现代科学的价值。

正：对现代科学的价值无论怎样重视也不为过。

It was not until years afterwards that he heard of Semmelweis.

二、修辞句型中的误区

同汉语一样，英语写作中大量运用修辞手段，其中有不少辞格类似于汉语辞格表达方式，因此可以直译。但有一些英语辞格很难用直译方式表达清楚，即便是同一辞格，由于处于不同场合，有的能直译，有的则不能直译。下列几种情况有时不宜直译：

1. 比喻：有比喻可以直译，有则不能，这往往取决于汉语表达习惯。例如：

At the door to the restaurant, a stunning, [w]porcelain[/w]-faced woman in traditional costume asked me to remove my shoes.
如果把a stunning ,porcelain-faced woman 译作"一位迷人陶瓷般脸蛋妇女"就显得粗俗滑稽，但是不是作者本意。这时意译就比较好。"在通往餐厅门口有一位妇女，涂脂抹粉、细皮嫩肉、身着和服、十分迷人，她叫我脱下鞋子。"

The girl is a dead shot. 这位姑娘是神枪手。（不能译作"死射手"）

After the failure of his last novel, his reputation stands on slippery grounds. 他上部小说失败之后，声誉一落千丈。（不能译为"站在滑动场地上了。"）

2. 有些借喻不能直译

He went west by stage coach and succumbed to the epidemic of gold and silver fever in Nevada''s Washoe Region.

误：他乘公共马车到了西部，患了瓦肖地区金银发烧流行病。

正：他乘公共马车到了西部，卷入了淘金热和淘银热。

The rather arresting spectacle of little old Japan adrift amid [w]beige[/w] concrete skyscrapers is the very symbol of the [w]incessant[/w] struggle between the kimono and the miniskirt. 式样古老小巧日本房屋像小船一般，漂游在灰棕色钢筋混凝土摩天大楼之间，这引人注目的景象象征着旧传统和新发展之间不断斗争。

3. 引典。如果是尽人皆知典故。可以直译，不必加说明，如果多数人不知道，最好是意译，或者直译加注释。

近万名缅甸难民涌向中缅边境中国遭遇“难民潮”

缅甸难民涌入中国

Up to 10,000 refugees have fled to an area in southwestern Yunnan province, driven by fighting between Myanmar's military and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), one of the country's most powerful rebel groups. Many of the refugees are women, children and elderly people.由于近日缅甸军队与该国最强大的反叛组织之一的“克钦族独立军”发生冲突，缅甸1万多难民逃亡至中国云南省西南部地区。难民中大多为妇女、儿童和老人。

Fighting erupted after a 17-year-old [w]ceasefire[/w] broke down last June, sending ethnic Kachins fleeing to the border area.去年6月，双方长达17年的停战协议被打破，冲突从此暴发，致使克钦族人逃往边境地区。

Although the intensity of the fighting has eased, aid groups fear that more people will flee and [w]exacerbate[/w] dire conditions. 如何申请加拿大“超级签证”？

何谓加拿大“超级签证”？

从２０１１年１２月１日起，加拿大驻各国的签证办事处开始接受父母和祖父母来加团聚“超级签证”的申请。该类签证适用于加国居民或公民处在移民申请签证审批轮候期的申请人的父母和祖父母，有效时间可长达１０年，获签者每次留加时间最长２４个月，且在此期间不必更新签证。

每年加拿大都收到超过４万至５万份新的家庭团聚申请，现时移民部积存了超过１６．５万份申请，致使目前该类别审批的等候时间达到７年，一方面暂停接受父母或祖父母受担保来加团聚移民的新申请，一方面推出“超级签证”，让处于团聚移民申请轮候期的父母或祖父母，与居住在加拿大的家人有更长时间相聚，而又不用负担他们的福利。另外，２０１２年，加拿大还将大增父母或祖父母永久居民人数，增至２５０００人，这将是近２０年来接纳父母或祖父母担保移民最多的人数。

申请超级签证的基本条件

申请加拿大“超级签证”，需符合以下几项基本条件：

１、父母和祖父母需通过体检。超级签证体检合格的要求，与现行的探亲和移民签证相同，加国政府不会接受已经患有严重疾病的申请人来加。

２、居住在加拿大的子女或孙子女要达到最低收入要求，并对申请赴加父母或祖父母做出财务支持承诺，对担保人最基本的收入要求，个人年收入最少在１．７万元人民币以上。

３、必须提供已经购买加拿大境内有效的私人医疗保险的证明。

另外，超级签证收费１５０元，获签者每两年须出境重办入境手续，届时要提供新的医疗保险证明。

超级签证８周内签发

一般情况下，加拿大签证部门在收到申请者完整申请资料后，可在８个星期内发签证，不过加拿大移民部预计将会有数千人申请“超级签证”，签证推出初期可能会因大批申请涌入而影响获批时间。此外，超级签证属于临时居留签证，父母或祖父母持超级签证在加拿大居住期间仅是暂时居留，因此一旦他们获批成为永久居民，此前在加逗留的两年乃至更长的时间并不能累计计算在申请公民身份时所需的居留时间。

需要了解的是，“超级签证”只是加拿大移民部“加快家庭团聚移民计划”第一阶段的一项措施。新设计的父母和祖父母团聚计划，将会作为第二阶段的“加快家庭团聚移民计划”于两年内推出。（陈昱）

All the work out routines are to promote awareness for Obama's "Let's Move!" initiative to fight childhood obesity which she started two years ago.

跟团游自助游

团队旅行中，最大块的挨宰费主要是购物店、烧香；小的费用主要是看人妖、潜水、互动节目。总之最后你的花销很可能超出团费。有些人在当地报名参加“一日游”等，常见的被宰方式是从这家旅行社被“卖”到另一家旅行社，可能还要忍受非常恶劣的服务态度。

防宰攻略：

1.选择正规、规模大的旅行社。

2.去正规的水果市场，店铺多，市场管理相对完善。

3.如果当地有熟人，可以让他带你去买。

景点游玩

1.网上提前订门票。一般网络订票能更优惠，建议提前购票。

2.不必每个景点都去，去一些重点和有代表性的景点便可。

囧研究：做选择题时应该坚持最初选项？NO！

The standard advice for multiple-choice tests is: if in doubt, [w]stick with[/w] your first answer.在做选择题的时候，大家奉行一条：如果在选项中纠结，那么就选你最先认定的那个答案。

College students believe it: about 75% agree that changing your first choice will lower your score overall (Kruger et al., 2005). Instructors believe it as well: in one study 55% believed it would lower students' scores while only 16% believed it would improve them.75%大学生认为更改选择题中自己最先认定的答案会降低他们的考试分数。在一项研究中，也有55%的老师这么认为，只有16%的老师认为更改自己最初认定的选项会提高考试分数。

And yet this is wrong.但是这种想法是错的。

One survey of 33 different studies [w=conduct]conducted[/w] over 70 years found that, on average, people who change their answers do better than those who don't (Benjamin et al., 1984). In none of these studies did people get a lower score because they changed their minds.70多年里的33项研究显示，一般来说，修改选择题答案比不修改答案的考试结果要好。在这些研究中，没有哪项结果显示修改选择题答案会降低考试分数。

Study after study shows that when you change your answer in a multiple-choice test, you are more likely to be changing it from wrong to right than right to wrong. Why do so many people (including many who should know better, like the authors of test-preparation guides) still say that you should stick with your first answer? Kruger et al. So we tend to remember much more clearly the times when we changed from right to wrong. Fans of The Vampire Diaries are going to smile (and probably [w]blush[/w]) when their copy of Entertainment Weekly arrives on their [w]doorstep[/w] this week. The show’s [w]holy[/w] [w]trinity[/w] — Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and Paul Wesley – graces three crazy hot covers, each fueling different ships. The show’s [w]executive[/w] producers, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, even discuss how they worry about angering the shippers while [w=brainstorm]brainstorming[/w] story lines. Fortunately, these covers will make everyone happy.

NINA & IAN:

I’m not just saying this because of my [w]blatant[/w] Damon-Elena [w]bias[/w], but this is [w]undeniably[/w] the hottest of the three covers. Not only are Ian and Nina both totally nakey, but they’re both doing some [w]hardcore[/w] [w=smolder]smoldering[/w] at the camera. I dare say it puts Damon’s (many) [w]bathtub[/w] scenes to shame.

I also appreciate this cover because it totally feeds into Ian and Nina’s real-life relationship, or at least what people think of their relationship. When asked about an off-camera romance with Nina, Ian simply responds, “Nothing has been confirmed yet.”

NINA & PAUL:

This cover is what one might call “[w]tasteful[/w],” and I wouldn’t be surprised if hardcore Stefan-Elena shippers feel cheated. That said, Nina and Paul still look all kinds of sexy.

It’s also interesting to note that they’re under dark sheets, as opposed to the pearly white bedding on Nina’s cover with Ian. While I’m sure this is merely a nod to Stefan’s dark side this season, I can’t help but think that Ian would have been under the dark sheets had this cover come out two years ago. My how things change.

ALL THREE:

Talk about a crowd-pleaser! The cover with all three stars — which, I think, blows the pants off the Rolling Stone cover with the True Blood cast — perfectly sums up what The Vampire Diaries is all about. Everyone is sexy and everyone wants Elena. Plus, you get to see at least 5 percent of the side of Ian’s left butt cheek. So, that’s pretty [w]spectacular[/w].

油价上调引关注你的油箱加满了没？

BEIJING - China raised the retail prices for gasoline and diesel by 300 yuan ($47.53) per tonne starting February 8, the country's top economic planner said on Tuesday.最高经济规划机构国家发改委在周二表示，自2月8日凌晨起上调汽油柴油零售价，上调幅度为300元/吨。

The [w]benchmark[/w] retail price of gasoline was lifted by 0.22 yuan per liter and diesel by 0.26 yuan per liter, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).根据国家发改委的规定，汽油的零售基准价将上调0.22元/升，柴油上调0.26元/升。

The latest price change, which is much expected by the market, comes amid rising pressures for the country's [w=refinery]refineries[/w] as the increasing international crude oil [w=future]futures[/w] prices keep driving up their operation costs.最新的成品油价格调整在市场预期中。随着国际市场原油期货价格持续走高，造成国内炼油产运营成本增加，压力持续上升。

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is continuing on his [w]quest[/w] to [w]shed[/w] his [w]squeaky[/w] clean image.

The British actor has implied he engaged in one-night stands with [w=groupie]groupies[/w], despite [w=declare]declaring[/w] his love for girlfriend Rosie Coker.

Daniel, 22, said he is nervous of sleeping with [w=admirer]admirers[/w] because of the [w]insipid[/w] [w]pillow[/w] talk that usually follows afterwards.

During an interview with the Daily Mirror, he revealed he prefers to know someone before hopping under the covers with them.

He said: 'I was always very nervous about the groupie thing. I like to like somebody before I sleep with them.'

'You know, you’re going to have to talk to them afterwards, even if it is a one-night stand.'

'I have... I mean, that has happened, but generally speaking I’ve known the person. Apart from a few times when I was drinking.'

However, in the next [w]breath[/w], the boy [w]wizard[/w] was [w=gush]gushing[/w] about Rosie, [w=bemoan]bemoaning[/w] the fact he has to promote his new film The Woman in Black across the Atlantic, meaning he'll miss Valentine's Day in the UK.

He said: 'I haven’t seen her for weeks and I won’t be back for Valentine’s. I’ll be home a few days later, though, so I’ll have to make up for lost time.'

'I’ve got three weeks off so we can be together – although I do plan to watch quite a bit of sport on TV.'

Daniel's [w]praise[/w] for his girlfriend goes hand-in-hand with his [w]modesty[/w], claiming he is 'not an easy person to love' and frequently quite 'useless'.

Radcliffe currently takes centre stage in [w]thriller[/w] The Woman In Black, based on Susan Hill's novel of the same name and he will be at a special [w]matinee[/w] [w=screen]screening[/w] on Saturday 11th February at 3pm at Empire Leicester Square.

The film follows a young [w]widower[/w] and lawyer in 19th century London who is sent to a remote Yorkshire village to sort through a dead woman’s papers.
