Parts of the East Coast are preparing for a major winter storm. Forecasters say conditions could turn extremely dangerous in the mid-Atlantic region around Washington. The storm could bring 30 inches of snow to the nation's capital.

President Barack Obama says the unexpected drop in the unemployment rate is cause for hope but not celebration. The rate fell to 9.7% last month from 10% as more people said they had jobs.

Former aide to presidential candidate John Edwards is held in contempt of court for not turning over a personal videotape. He says it shows Edwards in a sexual encounter with the woman other than his wife. The judge is giving Andrew Young time to turn over the tape.

Two giant pandas from the United States arrive in China after a long journey by air. Meilan and Taishan will now go to separate research and breeding areas with hopes panda cubs will come.
