1.expensive 可以指昂贵的;花钱多的;价格高的(costing a lot of money) ,通常指物美价高,超出消费者的购买力;

That’s a beautiful skirt, but it’s too expensive for me.

那是件漂亮的裙子,但对我来说太贵了。

Rolls Royces are very expensive.

劳斯莱斯汽车价格昂贵。

She has expensive tastes (= she likes things that cost a lot of money).

她喜欢昂贵的东西。

2.Dear也可以表示价格昂贵,高价(costing too much),指价格高出正常或合理的价格,主要指普通日用品因暂时的供应不足而造成的价格上涨。

The food was good but very dear.

这儿的饭菜不错,就是太贵。

另外,dear还有其他的含义:

 1.loved or liked very much 亲爱的,心爱的;可爱的

She was a very dear friend.

她是一位非常亲密的朋友。

He was very dear to me.

2.used at the beginning of a letter to greet the person you are writing to (用于信的开头作问候语)亲爱的,尊敬的

3. used in expressions of anger, disappointment, sadness, or surprise 天哪(表示恼怒、失望、伤心、吃惊等)
