Leaving the premise with the items would be out of the question since the club manager would know someone broke into his space immediately. If he could not take the things with him, there was no point to open the safe in the first place. Doug's decision was to forgo breaking into the safe and to get out. The only thing he did was just to take a picture of the safe to identify the type and model of the safe, as well as its security system. He could do the analysis later.
