新版《红楼梦》从去年 5 月开拍至今，剧组曾多次吐苦水，称没钱投资周转，还甚至让“宝玉”、“黛玉”代言酒类产品筹钱。但从该剧拍摄规模、道具、布景、灯光等细节来看，可用华丽精致形容，而制片人透露，新“红楼”现金投资加上无形资源支持，已经超过 2 亿。

新版《红楼梦》制作方已经对该剧投入了 2 亿元（合 2900 万美元）的资金，创下了中国古装电视剧的投资额历史纪录。

上面的报道中，costume drama 就是指“古装剧”，属于 period piece（历史题材作品）的一种，里面的 costumes（服装）、sets（场景）和 properties（道具）都要按 context of the film/television（剧情）设置。
