Personally I am very pessimistic. But when, for instance, one of my staffs has a baby you can’t help but bless them for a good future. Because I can’t tell that child, ‘Oh, you shouldn’t have come into this life.’ And yet I know the world is heading in a bad direction. So with those conflicting thoughts in mind, I think about what kind of films I should be making.
我个人非常悲观厌世。但是每当,举个例子,我的一位员工有了孩子,你会禁不住祝福他们有个美好的前程。因为我不能告诉那个孩子,“天,你不该来到这个世界上。”可是我知道,世界正朝越来越糟的方向驶去。所以我脑子里带着那些个前后矛盾的想法,我思考着我该拍什么样的电影。

I’ve become skeptical of the unwritten rule that just because a boy and girl appear in the same feature, a romance must ensue. Rather, I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live- if I’m able to, then perhaps I’ll be closer to portraying a true expression of love.
