吊兰又称垂盆草、桂兰、钩兰、折鹤兰，西欧又叫蜘蛛草或飞机草，原产于南非。属百合科多年生常绿草本植物。根肉质，叶细长，似兰花。吊兰叶腋中抽生出的匍匐茎，长可尺许，既刚且柔；茎顶端簇生的叶片，由盆沿向外下垂，随风飘动，形似展翅跳跃的仙鹤。故吊兰古有折鹤兰之称。
Chlorophytum comosum, often called the spider plant, is a herbaceous plant. It is native to tropical and southern Africa, but has become naturalized in other parts of the world, including western Australia. Variegated forms in particular are used as house plants.
