背景介绍:

You have been reading recently about the article calling attention to the competitive culture of children. Here is an extract from an online blog.

The Curse of Children

A recent bus advertisement has attracted some attention in town. The main selling point of the ad is to help children to become “king of interview.” In fact, I feel so bad for the children. The culture, typified by this advertisement, is so distorted that there is even a TV ad telling us that children need to play at least an hour a day. Parents nowadays talk about “winning at the starting point.” They want to help their infants get ready for a lifelong cut throat competition of society.

话题:

Write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper giving your opinion on this issue.

范例1:

‘The early bird catches the worm’. But young birds can’t fly. Can they catch it?
Youngsters nowadays are beset with a myriad of competitions. Born to face
challenges and to stand out from others, they join crawling competitions when they are a
few months old, walking competition when they are two and eating competitions when
they are three. They are forced to conduct interview competitions to secure themselves a
place in kindergartens when they just know how to utter a few words! The lamentable
episodes do not end here. For a decade onwards until they grow up, never will exams stop
besetting them, nor are they kept away from competitor among their peers in trivial things,
not even their handwriting and the neatness of their homework. They are exposed to
different kinds of competitions ranging from academic ones to sports games and yet have
no choice to withdraw. What is happening to our children?
The less competitions youngsters face, the better life they will live, and the brighter
future they can attain. So, why don’t we help them straddle the ‘Dark Age’?
