China’s Lin Dan is chasing a fifth World Championship this week in Guangzhou and had a chance to move one step closer to that goal Thursday. Lin, taking on Chong Wei Feng of Malaysia for a place in the quarter-finals.

Ranked 15th in the world, Chong posed a real threat for Lin at the start of the match. Chong forced Lin around the court here and after the dive from the Chinese, Chong would seal the point.

The Malaysian took a 5-2 lead early as Lin struggled to deal with Chong’s game at the net.

After falling behind 7-2 Lin started to figure out Chong’s strategy and became patient, waiting for Chong to make mistakes. And Lin would come back to seal a close first game, 22-20.

The loss took a clear toll on the Malaysian as the 26-year-old would start to falter in game two, becoming more prone to errors. Lin meanwhile, found his rhythm and took game two 21-10 to move to the quarter-finals where he will face compatriot Chen Long.
