Korean Pool, the South Korean broadcasting unit for the Beijing Olympic Games, has officially apologized to the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee for leaking out footage of rehearsals of the opening ceremony by a Korean TV station.

In Beijing, head of the Korea broadcasting team Jeff Kim said the station has taken down all the footage from its website and it will face consequences for spoiling the opening ceremony.

"We are shameful for what SBS has done. The TV station has received condemnation from the Beijing organizing committee. And the Korean Poll is discussing how to punish them."

In the meantime, the International Olympic Committee has also expressed shock over leakage of the footage. Kevan Gosper, chief of the IOC Press Commission, told reporters that SBS violated conventions between the host country and broadcasters providing that the opening ceremony be kept secret until its official unveiling.

"I think we'd all like to go to the opening ceremony, waiting to see what is going to happen. Even volunteers who are allowed to go there keep mum about it and don't talk about it publicly. Koreans may think they did the right thing, but they did a disservice to the Olympics and the BOCOG."

The Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee has expressed its disappointment and condemnation to SBS. Sun Weide, a media official from the BOCOG, said Thursday world audiences can still expect surprises in the opening ceremony.

"The fragments cannot demonstrate the full picture of the spectacular opening ceremony. We hope audiences will wait for the wonderful performance when the Games open on August 8."

The opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympic Games is directed by famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou. His team of elite artists has been preparing for the show for three years. It will showcase the essence of China's rich culture, and its vision for the future to the world.
