The sponsors of a Senate proposal to expand background checks for gun buyers say a vote is likely this week and it’s too close to call. The plan requires background checks for people buying guns at gun shows and online. 
 
Senator Marco Rubio says a proposed immigration bill expected to be introduced this week won’t offer amnesty to those who entered the U.S. illegally. Rubio’s proposal would require people to pass a rigorous background check and pay fines and application fees to receive a permit. 
 
North Korea has rebuffed a South Korea’s proposal to resolve rising tensions through dialog. Secretary of State John Kerry says the North would find ready partners in the U.S. if it began abandoning its nuclear program. 
 
And 1,500 people crowded into Lima, attempting to set a record. They hope to be certified as the largest number of Cajon players. That’s a Peruvian percussion instrument.
