The latest count shows, there are less than 530 wild Siberian tigers left in the world, with no more than 20 living in China.

The Siberian tiger, also known as the Amur tiger, is the largest living felid and is on the edge of extinction. It is a tiger subspecies inhabiting mainly the Sikhote Alin mountain region in eastern Siberia of Russia, with a small subpopulation in northeast China.

The Siberian tigers mainly live in mountainous coniferous forests, which is about 500 to 1,000 meters in elevation. They feed on red deer, roe deer and wild boar.

Chinese experts have suggested breeding the Siberian tiger in captivity, in addition to strengthening protection of its living environment.
