Heavy snow has hit the city of Beitun in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, driving the temperature to minus 12 degrees Celsius.

The heavy snow fell from 8 pm on Friday and lasted to Saturday morning, with snow accumulated up to 10 centimeters deep on average in the city. The low temperature also led to dense fog, which reduced the visibility to less than 50 meters and slowed down the traffic.

Low temperatures also caused losses for farmers in the city’s rural areas, destroying 40 of the 120 greenhouses there. Daily supply of vegetables was affected. According to local meteorological department, the snowy weather will last until next Friday.
