The gunman who fatally wounded four people and killed another in Seattle is now dead. During a widespread manhunt Wednesday afternoon, police closed in on the gunman who then turned the gun on himself. He later died at a hospital.

A massive wild fire in New Mexico’s Gila National Forest has become the state's largest ever. Fire officials say the erratic blaze grew overnight to more than 170,000 acres surpassing last year's wild fire that threatened the Los Alamos nuclear facility.

New York City wants to ban the sale of large sodas and sugary drinks in an effort to fight obesity. The first-in-the-nation proposal would impose a 16-ounce limit on the size of sweetened drinks at restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues and street carts.

Irish voters will decide in a referendum today to ratify the European Union’s fiscal treaty. Rejection of the measure could prevent Ireland from getting EU rescue fund loans in 2013. Results are expected by tomorrow.
