Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system. What we see of the planet are just the cloudtops of its extremely dense atmosphere. Jupiter appears in our sky as a bright, steadily shining star. You might have noticed Jupiter in the moon's vicinity this morning. [---2---]

If you're in the Americas, the moon and Jupiter will be closest together tomorrow morning – Sunday. From Earth's eastern hemisphere - Asia, Australia and New Zealand – you'll see the moon closest to Jupiter on Monday morning. [---3---] At mid-northern latitudes – like those in the U.S. and Europe - the moon and Jupiter rise about two and a half hours before sunrise.

At mid-southern latitudes – Australia or New Zealand – they rise more than five hours before the sun. You can't miss Jupiter because it's so much brighter than any star. [---5---] They will be together before dawn for the next few days.

You'll find charge showing Jupiter near the moon at the website. I'm Joel Block. I'm Deborah Byrd, for ES, a clear voice for S. We’re at .

If you're up before dawn, you can spot the king of planets, Jupiter, near the waning crescent moon in the east in the next few mornings. Depending on where you live, the moon and Jupiter will be closest together for this month on Sunday or Monday morning. The number of hours that the moon and Jupiter rise before the sun depends on your latitude. Look for this bright morning planet near the moon in the east or southeast sky before sunrise.
