September 1, 1939 - Germany invades Poland.


Before invading Poland, Hitler instructed his generals to act with [-----1-----] and close their hearts to [-----2-----]. Covered by the fearsome Luftwaffe which bombed many Polish towns. villages and cities [-----3-----], 56 German divisions crossed the border into Poland on September 1st, 1939. Poland's [-----4-----] proved ideal for the Nazi Blitzkreig or lightning war machinery. The Polish army and cavalry fought bravely but were sadly [-----1-----] by Germany's modern technology. Two days after the invasion, Britain and France declared war, formally initiating World War II. Within a month, Poland was partitioned between Germany and the Soviet Union, which had entered into an alliance before the invasion.
