The romantic comedy "Love is Not Blind" has swept the national box office charts after raking in 200 million Yuan in eight days. But how did this small-budget flick, made with less than ten million yuan, beat all the Hollywood blockbusters?

"Love is Not Blind" has been competing with three Hollywood blockbusters in the past week: " Rise of the Planet of the Apes", "Real Steel" and "Immortals."

And it is surprising for many to see "Love" picked up a box office of one hundred million yuan only four days after its release.

Owing to its initial success, "Love is Not Blind" continues to occupy many time slots on cinema screening schedules.

"Love is Not Blind" is based on a popular online novel that tells the story of a young wedding planner who is happy in love until she catches her boyfriend with her best friend. She begins writing a diary about being unlucky in love.

Released on November 11th, known as Singles Day in China, the break-up themed flick resonated with many cinema goers that day. And the perfect timing is only one factor behind its unexpected success.

Zhang Wenbo, film promoter, said, "This is a movie made especially for a young audience. The storyline is a familiar one that young people can't get enough of. And its spicy language is also well received. The most important thing is, the movie reflects on young people's life and psychology in a way that those in their twenties would feel very close to the movie."

What "Love" has achieved could be the envy of other local productions, including "Kora". Depicting a Taiwan young man's cycling journey to Tibet, the movie has grabbed attention at this year's Tokyo International Film Festival and took home the "Best Artistic Contribution" award. But that honor failed to translate into a box office triumph.

Experts would blame weak marketing for its lukewarm reception in the cinema. It seems that a big investment and prize-winning tag is no longer a box office guarantee at the Chinese cinema.
