The Senate is expected to kill a House-passed measure that would slash federal spending and mandate a balanced budget. The so-called “cut, cap and balance” plan faces strong opposition from Senate Democrats and the White House. Meanwhile the clock is ticking to an August 2nd debt default deadline.

A truck driver is dead and at least 20 people are hurt after an early morning crash in upstate New York. A tour bus and a tractor trailer collided on I-90, closing the Thruway near Waterloo. State police say the bus was carrying about 50 people, with both vehicles catching fire after the crash.

All eyes are on the NFL Players Association today. NFL owners approved a new collective bargaining agreement last night. The players union says there will be a conference call tonight on the deal that could end the 4-month lockout.

And a pack of weiners tested their speed in Seattle! Weiner dogs, that is. The dachshunds were competing for a spot in the 15th Annual Kent and Alan Weiner Dog Races this weekend.
