The third to last panel is an imaginary number.Shouldn't it be -SQRT(x)?

Only for x > 0. For x < 0 it is real.

-SQRT(x) would be SQRT(x) flipped over the x axis.

He should have put sqrt(x2) - would have been a lot easier and could have formed a C!

sqrt(x2 ) would be just like the absolute value. You want ±sqrt(x).

Actually it doesn't matter if x is >0 or <0 because the number gets squared and then the - is applied.

The number is not squared.

You're right. What was I thinking? Forget everything I said.

Slightly relevant occurrence: I opened this while watching Carnivale, and a character said "it's a sin" right as I looked at the first one. Weird.

Yeah but sin(x) is pronounced like "sign"
