President Barack Obama will sign a landmark law today allowing homosexuals to openly serve in the U.S. military. However, service chiefs have to complete implementation plans before the old “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” policy is replaced.

The Senate is poised to approve a nuclear arms pact with Russia. Leading senators say passage of the New START treaty appears assured after 11 Republicans joined Democrats in a vote Tuesday to end debate. Ratification of the treaty requires approval of 67 senators.

Six California counties are now under a state of emergency because of extreme weather. Southern California is in the crosshairs today where torrential rain, thunderstorms, flooding and hail are expected. Forecasters say up to 2 inches of rain an hour could fall in some locations.

Lindsay Lohan is under investigation for misdemeanor battery stemming from a confrontation on December 12 at the Betty Ford clinic. Lohan allegedly got into an altercation with a clinic staffer. That worker has since been fired for violating patient confidentiality by giving interviews.
