The Senate has cleared the way for gays to serve openly in the military. A bill to repeal “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” was approved today in what is being seen as a landmark vote for gay rights. However, it could take up to a year to implement the law.

A planned military drill that has raised tensions between North and South Korea has been postponed because of bad weather. South Korea is now expected to stage the military drills Monday or Tuesday. North Korea has threatened action if it does.

American Amanda Knox has scored a victory in her effort to overturn her murder conviction in Italy. A court there says it will allow independent review of crucial DNA evidence. Knox was convicted last year of killing her roommate.

Kate Middleton has made her first public appearance since announcing her engagement to Prince William. Both attended a cancer charity fundraiser Saturday night in London.
