这些动词均有“支持，支援，拥护”之意。

: 通常指对论点、行动、事业等的强有力支持。

例如：Many of his friends backed his plan.（他的很多朋友支持他的计划。）

: 既可指积极努力对陷入困境者的支持，也可指给某人在行动、道义或信仰上的支持。

例如：We will loyally uphold the principles of the United Nations.（我们将忠实地维护联合国的原则。）

t : 含义广泛，多指在道义上或物质上支持某人，也可指对某项事业的支持。

例如：Our school issupported by the government.（政府赞助我校的办学费用。）

n : 侧重指连续不断的支持。

例如：We do not have enough money to sustain our campaign for long.（我们没有足够的财力使宣传活动长期保持下去。）

te : 多指通过写文章或发表演说等来支持或拥护，往往暗示提倡某事或为某事辩护。

例如：He advocates reforming the prison system.（他主张改良监狱制度。）
