On October 26, 1975, A Chorus Line premieres on Broadway.

Give My Regards To Broadway, sang George M. Cohan and ever since Broadway has meant American Theater to most people. Especially musical theater - originally the center of music hall, vaudeville and variety shows, Broadway hit its peak in the late 1920s with some 280 shows a year. Movies and later television cut the number of productions, but not the glitter of its ever grander, more sophisticated musicals. Despite an enormous leap in ticket prices, new longevity records were set in the 1980s. "A Chorus Line," which premiered October 26th, 1975, used Michael Bennett's choreography to extol the hardships of show biz. Hardships aside, it later surpassed "Grease" to become the longest-running show in Broadway history.
