October 18, 1931 - Thomas Edison dies.

Thomas Edison dies at his home in West Orange, New Jersey. His education limited to three months of schooling, Edison used his boyhood experience as a telegraph operator to invent the electric pen, a forerunner of the photocopier, before moving on to the dictaphone, a forerunner of the gramophone, and the incandescent lamp, a forerunner of the light bulb. He also patented or invented modern methods of generating and distributing electricity, the storage battery, the movie projector and the electron tube. Thomas Alva Edison, holder of more than 1,000 patents - dead at 84.
