On October 15th, 1924, Anna Pavlova, the most celebrated dancer of her time, has departed from her London home for what will be a farewell world tour. Legendary Pavlova, whose dance was often been likened to the flight and the grace of birds, was named prima ballerina of the Imperial Russian Ballet before joining Diaghilev's Parisian company in 1909. Soon after she formed her own company and began a series of world tours which inspired many young dancers of North and South America, Africa and Asia. Her most famous solo performance was in The Dying Swan, first performed in 1905. Miss Pavlova's American tour figures to be a dazzling swan song for the 43 year old dancer.
