President Barack Obama is heralding another month of modest job growth in the private sector. But he is also conceding that the tough days continue for the millions of unemployed. A new government report shows private employers added 64,000 positions last month. A wave of government layoffs led to a net loss of 95,000 jobs.

Authorities have arrested a suburban Chicago police officer in connection with a series of shootings that killed one man and wounded two others. Lynwood police officer, Brian Dorian, is being held on $2.5 million bail. Authorities have been looking for a gunman who approached his victims, asking them odd questions about honeybees or construction materials and then shooting them.

The nation’s largest bank is halting sales of foreclosed homes in all 50 states. Bank of America says it believes the basis for its foreclosure decisions is accurate. It’s reviewing documents for potential flaws.

A new baby twiga arrived at Des Moines, Iowa zoo. A female giraffe was born at Blank Park zoo on September 25. Her name is Sabra, which in Swahili means patience.
