This is AP News Minute.

Iran says the Iranian nuclear scientist who sought refuge in the Pakistani Embassy compound in Washington has left the U.S. and is on his way home to Tehran. He’s expected to arrive in Iran tomorrow. Iran has claimed that the scientist was abducted by American agents. The U.S. denies the claim.

BP is delaying critical tests on a new well cap designed to fully control the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The tests were pushed back after government officials said more analysis was needed on the plan. It’s unclear when the tests would start. If the cap works, it’ll be the first time in nearly 3 months that oil has not been flowing into the Gulf.

Prosecutors have wrapped up their case in the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial. The defense is expected to start calling witnesses next week. The former Illinois governor is on trial accused of scheming to sell or trade President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat.

After 13 years of utility, the National League has broken through in the Midsummer Classic. Brian McCann drove in all three National League runs with a double into right field, earning him MVP honors with a 3-1 win. The National League earns home-field advantage in this year’s World Series.
