论考试

There are many arguments about the advantages and disadvantages of examinations. Some people think that examinations can help them review the lessons regularly, while others maintain that too many examinations have frustrated them.

对于考试的益处和弊端存在着许多争论。一些人认为考试能够帮助他们定期地复习功课，然而，还有一些人认为太多的考试使得他们心灰意冷。

To me I think an examination is a good thing for both the teachers and students. Teachers can find out how much the students have grasped and then improve their teaching, students on the other hand will learn what their weak points are and then study even harder.

对于我来说，我认为考试对于老师和学生都是一个很好的途径。老师能够发现学生的掌握程度从而改善他们的教学，学生则可以知道他们的弱点从而更加努力地学习。

All in all, we should not waste time arguing whether examinations are good or not. What we should do is to try to improve the exam system and try to adjust it to our different requirements.

总而言之，我们不必浪费时间去争论考试到底是好是坏，我们所应该做的是努力去改善考试制度使得它不断适应我们的各种要求。

NOTES

1. maintain 这个词有多种意思，在本文中它解释为“坚持，主张，断言”。
例：We must maintain a firm attitude. 我们必须采取坚定的态度。
除此之外，它还能表示“供养，抚养”或者“维持，保持”。
例：maintain one’s family 养家糊口
maintain a good relationship with… 与……保持良好关系

2. frustrate 挫败，阻挠，使感到灰心
文中用到了frustrate这个词，就想跟大家说一下frustrated。表示心情沮丧、灰心丧气时，我们喜欢说sad, lose one's heart等，然而老外却偏爱frustrated这个词。例如：I'm so frustrated that no girls wrote to me.（没有一个女孩子给我写过信，我真是沮丧极了。）以后当你想表达灰心丧气之意时，不要总是用sad了，试试用frustrated吧~

3. all in all 总的来说，总而言之
来看一段对话：
A: You know... I did very poorly on that test. 你知道的，那次测验我考砸了。
B: Cheer up! It's not the only chance in life to do well on a test. There'll be many more. 别泄气！又不是一辈子只有一次机会考试得好成绩。以后还有嘛。
A: Well, you know how I am about exams. I'm a perfectionist. 你了解我对考试的态度。我是个完美主义者。
B: Don't worry about it. All in all, you've done very well in school. 别担心了，总的来说，你在学校的表现很不错。
