海底地震引发了前往海地提供服务的热潮，一些旅游机构称这种将旅游与志愿工作合二为一的现象为“志愿旅游”。

上文中的voluntourism，大家应该看出来了，是volunteer和tourism的组合。游客的举动虽说出于好心，但是没有受过专门训练的志愿者，反而会给窘迫的灾区情势添乱。但是我们还是希望会有更多这样的voluntourist，为post-disaster construction，灾后重建，出一份力量。

自然灾难总是催生志愿服务的热潮，但是地震之前，像志愿教学、环境保护这种工作也是需要很多志愿者的帮助的，所以热心于“志愿游”的游客，可以更关注一些平时的公益活动。
