A seven-minute short spun out of "Gravity" that has been orbiting film festivals in recent weeks has finally landed on the Internet.

Written and directed by Jonas Cuaron — the son of "Gravity" director Alfonso — "Aningaaq" introduces the titular Inuit who's just a disembodied voice on the other end of Dr. Ryan Stone's (Sandra Bullock's) distress call to Earth.

It's a short but important scene, where Stone confides her fears of impending death to the non-English speaker as her oxygen runs out on a crippled Russian Soyuz space capsule hundreds of miles above the voice on the other end of the radio.

But with "Aningaaq," the younger Cuaron, who co-wrote the script to "Gravity" with his father, illuminates what was happening on the other end of the radio transmission — with the benefit of subtitles. Played by Orto Ignatiussen, Aninqaaq toils in an environment almost as unforgiving as space — a remote fjord in the frigid tundra of Greenland.
