5月2号的SAT作文结束了，题目大致是这样的：Are people defined by what they do。Here "do" exactly means "job". 翻译成简单的中文就是我们是不是根据一个人的工作来给这个人下定义。或者这样来说请问你们是如何来定义一个人的？不妨简单思考一下。

不妨请同学回到原文的define 这个词上，什么是定义呢？如果我给你两个单词，一个是sneer， 一个是giggle, 如何来区分呢？看它们的定义，然后你会发现前者是laugh scornfully，后者是laugh lightly in a nervous or silly way。前者是讥讽的笑，后者就是各位在课上回答不出问题时那种紧张的笑了。所以以此类推，当你对两个人进行定义的时候，应该体现出她们的不同。比如举个小例子，当我要向我妈妈介绍SHE里的Salina和Hebe的时候，光说到工作本身也许就不够了，都是歌手都当过主持人，这时候我可能得告诉我妈妈其中有一个人说话特别嗲，比较甜美；另外一个更加瘦一点。总之除了工作，可能还得加上一点外表什么的描述才能够更好的区别两个人。因此定义一个人有时光有工作还不够。
所以我想到了一些人，其中有我课上经常用的那个阿姆斯特朗，这个环法的七届冠军。当我们评论这个人的时候，更多时候为把他当作是一个集合体：抗癌英雄+环法冠军，而绝不仅仅看这个人的工作。因为在体育界优秀的人物有一打一打，真正让他独树一帜的一定有抗癌成功的这个经历。所以可以简单来写一下开头段。

I do not agree with the saying that people are defined by their jobs, for a definition of a person is supposed to distinguish himself from others and therefore a job itself often fails to serve this function. And in my opinion, one’s job is an essential index, but one’s attitude towards life also counts. Thus, I consider it wise to combine these two elements together in defining a person. Next I will develop the example of Lance Armstrong to illustrate my point.

在中间部分的例子展示部分，我会重点把握两个点，即作为运动员的艰辛到辉煌，和作为病人的超强意志，这两点的组合构成了人们对它的定义。接下来简单的写一下。

In 1996, the doctor told Lance Armstrong, a promising American cyclist, that he was suffering from the carcinoma of testis. To make it worse, the cancer cells had spread into his brain, leaving him a survival rate of lower than 50%. But after a 17-month medical treatment, in which he underwent a series of operations and painful radiation treatments, Armstrong returned to the cycling field in 1998. This time, he was no longer a drunkard who might give up in a hard stage, for he had got rid of the habit of drinking and strengthened his will during the therapy. Then from 1999 to 2005, he achieved the unprecedented seven victories in Tour de France, the World Cup in the cycling field. This competition requires not only masterful skills, but more importantly perseverance, since the athlete has to cover a distance of 3500 kilometers in 23 days.

然后例子的展示后面还有一个比较重要的议论部分，把例子和观点结合在一起。

The outstanding performance of Lance Armstrong as a cyclist has already justified his role as one of the most successful athletes. But this is only a part of his definition, for it is his determination in overcoming the serious disease plus his amazing victories as an athlete that diffentiate him from Roger Federer, the most distinctive tennis player with 13 Grand Slam titles and the Australian singer Kylie Minogue who bravely won the battle against the breast cancer. Thus it is reasonable to define a person according to what he does and how he takes his life.
