1） squeaky clean极其干净

虽然squeaky 本身的意思是“发出嘎吱声”，和干净没什么关心，但是squeaky clean 这个固定用法则是表示“极其干净”、“洁白无瑕”。

2）wholesomeadj. 有益的、影响好的

这个词其实很难直接翻译成中文。

不难看出它是whole+some，不过意思却似乎和这两个部分没啥关系。

它一方面可以表示“有益健康的”：

Have some fresh, wholesome food, please.
请吃点新鲜的、有益健康的食物吧。

另一方面可以表示“在道德、风气上有良好影响的”：

The foundation aims to promote wholesome family entertainment.
这家基金会致力于倡导有益身心健康的家庭娱乐。

 

3）brand v. 标明

这个词作名词的时候比较常见，就是表示“品牌”。

而它的动词含义可能就少见一些，这是表示“标明”，你也可以理解为“给……赋予……的形象”。

The newspapers branded her as a hypocrite.
报纸们把她描写成一个伪君子。
